How it works

How to use

Choose a mode: percent of a number, percentage change between two values, or a new total after an increase or decrease. Results update as you type.

Formula

Percent of a number: result = number × (percent ÷ 100). Percent change: ((new − old) ÷ old) × 100. New total: number × (1 ± percent ÷ 100).

Example

20% of 450 = 90. Price rising from 200 to 240 = +20%. Adding 15% to 350 = 402.50.

When it helps

Calculating discounts, VAT, salary changes, tips, or any comparison between two values.

What do you want to do next?

Move on to electricity or savings goals if you want to turn that percentage into real money and months.

FAQ

How do you calculate a percent of a number?+

We multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. So 20 percent of 150 becomes 30.

What does a negative percentage change mean?+

It means the end value is lower than the start value. The tool shows the decrease with a minus sign.

Can I use this for price increases?+

Yes. Enter your current amount and a percentage increase or decrease to see the new total instantly.

When should I use percentage change instead of percent of a number?+

Use percentage change when you compare a starting value with an ending value. Use percent of a number when you already know the percentage.
