How it works

How to use

Choose your currency, enter the distance you want to price, then pick the matching distance unit. Add your real fuel economy and fuel price using the units that fit your car, local fuel station, or trip notes. If the driving repeats, switch from per trip to per day, week, month, or year to get recurring monthly and yearly estimates.

Formula

Fuel used = distance in km × litres per km. Total fuel cost = fuel used × price per litre. Cost per distance unit = total cost ÷ distance. Monthly and yearly estimates repeat the same distance, fuel economy, and price for the selected recurring period.

Example

100 miles at 36 MPG UK with fuel at 1.45 GBP per litre works out to about 12.7 litres and roughly 18 GBP for the trip. If that same journey is your regular daily commute, the monthly and yearly totals scale from the same assumptions.

When it helps

Useful for pricing a single trip, checking commuting cost, comparing routes, building a rough monthly driving budget, or comparing a fuel car with an electric alternative. Treat the result as an estimate: real consumption changes with speed, traffic, weather, hills, load, and how closely your car matches its quoted economy.

What do you want to do next?

Compare the result with an EV, check your home electricity price, or convert units and currencies if you are planning across borders or markets.

FAQ

How do I calculate fuel cost for a trip?+

Enter the trip distance, your real fuel economy, and the fuel price you expect to pay. The calculator converts those inputs to distance in kilometres, litres per kilometre, and price per litre so it can estimate fuel used and the total trip cost.

How do I calculate fuel cost per mile?+

Fuel cost per mile is the total fuel cost divided by the trip distance in miles. This calculator shows that automatically after converting your distance, economy, and fuel price to one shared format behind the scenes.

How do I calculate fuel cost per kilometre?+

Fuel cost per kilometre is the total fuel cost divided by the distance in kilometres. It is useful when you want to compare routes, delivery runs, or local commuting costs with other transport options.

Can I use this for diesel cars?+

Yes. The calculator works for petrol, diesel, and other fuel-powered vehicles as long as you enter the right fuel economy and fuel price for that vehicle and fuel type.

Why does real fuel cost differ from the estimate?+

Real consumption often changes with traffic, speed, cold weather, hills, tyre pressure, passengers, cargo, and idling. Real fuel spend also changes when pump prices move or when your actual route differs from the planned distance.

Does this include parking, tolls, insurance or servicing?+

No. This calculator estimates fuel use and fuel cost only. It does not add parking, toll roads, congestion charges, insurance, repairs, depreciation, or servicing.
