How it works
Enter your monthly or yearly driving distance, fuel price, electricity price, and vehicle consumption. Use the charging mix to compare petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric running costs by kilometre, mile, month, and year.
Fuel cost per 100 km = fuel use in L/100 km × fuel price. Electric cost per 100 km = kWh/100 km × weighted electricity price. Weighted electricity price = home charging price × home charging share + public charging price × public charging share. Total cost scales from the distance you enter.
Driving 1,000 km per month in a petrol car using 6.5 L/100 km at 20 kr/L costs about 1,300 kr per month. An electric car using 18 kWh/100 km with 80% home charging at 1.50 kr/kWh and 20% public charging at 4.50 kr/kWh has a weighted price of 2.10 kr/kWh and costs about 378 kr per month. Estimated difference: 922 kr per month, or about 11,064 kr per year.
Useful when comparing electric vs petrol running costs, checking diesel or hybrid costs, estimating cost per kilometre or mile, or deciding whether lower energy costs could offset a higher vehicle price. It estimates running cost only, not full ownership cost.

FAQ
Can I compare petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars?+
Yes. Use the fuel vehicle fields for petrol, diesel, or hybrid consumption, and the EV fields for electricity use. The result compares running cost, not the full cost of owning the car.
Does the calculator show cost per mile and cost per kilometre?+
Yes. It estimates running cost per kilometre and per mile, plus monthly and yearly cost based on the distance you enter.
Is electric always cheaper than petrol?+
Not always. It depends on electricity price, fuel price, consumption, public charging share, and how much you drive. Home charging often lowers the EV cost, while public charging can reduce the saving.
