How it works

What counts as total ingredient cost?+
Add up what you actually spent on all the ingredients used in the recipe, including spices and oils. If you only used part of a packet, estimate the portion cost.
Should I include cooking time in the cost?+
This calculator covers ingredient cost only. If you want to include time, use the time calculator to work out labour cost separately.
Why does cost per serving vary so much?+
Protein ingredients like meat and fish usually cost more per gram than grains and vegetables. Batch cooking typically lowers the cost per portion.
