When these tools help
Use the electricity cost calculator for whole-home consumption from a bill or meter reading. Use the appliance calculator when you know one device's wattage and running time and want to estimate its contribution. Adding several appliance estimates will not always reproduce the household bill because standby loads, heating systems, shared equipment, and actual run times are easy to miss.
For the most useful comparison, use the total effective price from your bill rather than only the advertised energy rate. Check whether network charges, taxes, levies, and other variable costs need to be included in the per-kWh figure, then enter recurring fixed fees separately. This makes contract comparisons more realistic.
Electricity use is seasonal: heating, lighting, cooling, occupancy, and appliance behaviour can change the monthly total substantially. Results are planning estimates based on the values you enter, not meter readings, tariff guarantees, or quotes from an electricity supplier.
